Responsibilities and Qualifications

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Asbury’s Senior Litigation Paralegal) will assist the Company’s Legal Department and its attorneys by providing management and administrative support services, including management of billing and maintenance of the Legal Department litigation docket; document review and preparation of responses to requests for information and documents, including subpoenas; preparation of correspondence; and communication with corporate and field employees regarding claims, disputes and regulatory matters.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

 

Litigation Support and Dispute Management

  • Assist generally with litigation support, including personal injury claims, consumer claims, employment claims, and disputes with manufacturers and vendors
  • Receive pleadings and correspondence related to litigated matters, investigations, subpoenas, etc., and prepare correspondence and responses as appropriate and directed
  • Manage matter billing and other items with outside counsel as appropriate and directed
  • Maintain and update internal litigation/dispute management docket and database, and track disposition of resolved matters
  • Issue litigation holds as appropriate and directed
  • Interface with field personnel concerning the collection of documents and information related to disputes, investigations, subpoenas, etc., as appropriate and directed
  • Assist with compiling and reviewing documents related to disputes and transactions
  • Prepare correspondence and provide support for responding to consumer and government disputes, investigations, subpoenas, etc., as appropriate and directed
  • Provide support for employment disputes and other employment matters, including generating and receiving correspondence related to employment questions and disputes
  • Maintain and update internal reports on an ongoing basis 
  • Review and coordinate processing of settlement agreements and proceeds
  • Identify, research and analyze potential opportunities related to class actions

 

Administration

  • Interface with outside counsel and vendors concerning billing issues and items
  • Review correspondence from consumers, vendors, etc. for classification and prioritization
  • Maintain and update docket/calendar concerning litigated and arbitrated matters generally, including subpoenas, responses to consumer disputes, investigations, etc., and track service items
  • Interface with other departments e.g., Payroll, Operations, Real Estate, Human Resources, Benefits, etc., concerning the collection of information and documents
  • Track legal expenses for litigated matters and review invoices from outside counsel and vendors and prepare requests for payments
  • Expense tracking, submission of expenses and reimbursement of same on behalf of Legal Department

 

Special Projects

  • Assist with corporate filings and other matters as appropriate and directed
  • Assist with document review and operations projects, g., developing and maintaining materials related to employee agreements, severance and separation agreements, demand letters, legal settlements, etc.
  • Assist with collecting and assembling data for claims submissions in class and group actions
  • Perform legal research as necessary and requested, e.g., research dealer franchise law 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Solid understanding of litigation and dispute management and related areas relevant to a sophisticated inhouse legal department and what it means to be a public company
  • A positive approach to work and a “roll up my sleeves” attitude

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, be detail-oriented, understand when urgency is required and use good judgment in varied situations

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree preferred (not required)
  • +9 years as a litigation paralegal performing work for corporate clients (relevant in-house experience strongly preferred)
